Meditation Practice can Improve Your Health

Updated: Sep 8, 2022

That's right. Pausing for even 5 minutes a day can improve your health. According to the Mayo Clinic staff; "Meditation is considered a type of mind-body complementary medicine. It can produce a deep state of relaxation and a tranquil mind. Meditation can give you a sense of calm, peace and balance that can benefit both your emotional well-being and your overall health. And meditation may help you manage symptoms of certain medical conditions." Meditation can give you a sense of balance in life. Using this technique as a healthy way to reduce stress and relax can be a very valuable tool on your journey of true health. Here is a quick simple step by step process for beginners Step 1. Start early. Try to meditate first thing in the morning Step 2. Maybe make a commitment to the same time and place (Location should be where you can find stillness and not be disturbed) Step 3 Burn incense or turn on your essential oils diffuser to add ambiance Step 4. Pick a position that is COMFORTABLE for you. (Sitting cross legged might not be for you) Step 5. Breathe naturally

  • With your eyes closed, start at the top of your head and mentally scan all the way down your body.

  • As you scan, notice which parts feel relaxed or tense, comfortable or uncomfortable, light or heavy.

  • Perform the scan again and again (each scan should take about 20 seconds) and use these observations to build a mental picture of how your body feels right now, in the present moment.

  • When thoughts arise, simply return to the area of the body where you last left off.

You might even add a timer on your phone for 5 or 10 minutes. You can even jump on YouTube to follow a guided meditation. [Goodful on YouTube is a great option.] Keep in mind there are several different ways to practice meditation; there's Yoga, Tai-Chi, Walking, Praying, Lying down meditation, and etc. The best part is, YOU get to choose! Some other potential benefits of Meditation include:
